The MAU MAU Road project has become a vast hub for property value rise due to the ongoing constructions. It covers a total of 4 Mt. Kenya counties as it is 540 kilometers long. It is slated to be completed by the end of 2022. The route to Kamahindu in Limuru to Njengu near Mweiga in Nyeri was so named because it was opened as the MAU MAU war raged in the Aberdare forest. It allowed colonial militia to attack the Mau Mau fighters.
The resent road construction has come at an opportune time as it will not only strengthen movement between the region and Rift valley but it will also open the extensive area of the hilly-tea growing remote areas.

As stated by one of the youth leaders, the project has opened up the villages of Wanjerere, Tuthu and Ichichi where investors in eco-tourism lodges have been spotted since the start of the year. Land is known to be a fixed valuable asset and acquiring it helps person build equity on it. The area has become a center of attraction to potential investors who understand its value. Land has also appreciated in the area because of demand from people who want to put up businesses in the area.
The Mau Mau hallway was previously managed by KTDA, Kenya Tea Development Agency, which has numerous factories in the upper sections of central Kenya. As much as the transport routes have been changed due to the construction, to Nyandarua from Kiambu and Murang’a, the locals are still grateful for they have already witnessed change in the movement from the 4 counties.
More and more shopping centers have sprung up that had been hindered due to lack of reliable transport infrastructure. One of the tea farmers in Tuthu village, Kangema, Murang’a cited the stretch in Murang’a County as having multiple tourist attraction sites.
Also, Tetu residents in Nyeri County have applauded construction of the road as it has brought about lots of youth enterprises. Rental premises are now fully occupied and businesses are running smoothly.
MPs for, Kigumo and Kangema, Wangari Mwaniki and Muturi Kigano respectively, praised the project as it has opened the regions that had been cut of due to poor infrastructure.
Farmers now have a reason to smile as they will not incur unnecessary costs because the long routes have now been reduced by more than half. New tarmac roads will be constructed bringing profitability in the long run.
In 2019, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) started the construction of the stretch linking the counties of Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua.
